STYLE & BEAUTY (pg.30)

FASHION RULES FOR PLUS SIZE SISTERS
It could be very frustrating as a plus size sister when trying to dress stylishly because the wardrobe selection in plus sizes tends to be, well, limited. For this reason, big girls have a hard time finding trendy clothes to wear because quite a few of the clothes on the rack are mature, somber, subdued, as if telegraphing the message that big woman should try as often as possible to lessen their impact through sheer invisibility.                                                                                                                                                           Plus-sized sisters world over complain about the lack of fashion choice, the message being that the challenge of coming up with a sexy silhouette for a heavier women is an impossible mission, the notion of a heavier woman wanting to flaunt her femininity too much to entertain. The fact remains that we all cannot be slim and it is not bad to be full-figured but, the problem lies when a lot of big sisters are not able to manage their body size properly by wearing clothes that fits them. But here are tricks to apply when it comes to your wardrobe to give you that flattery, comfortable, trendy and sexier appearance...

PERFECT NUTRITION (pg.16)

A WEEK DAILY MENU FOR WEIGHT CONTROL
(Medical experts and nutritionist always advice you start and end your day with water. Drink at least a minimum of eight glasses of water a day. For those watching their weight, you should snack on fruits instead of junks).

PERFECT NUTRITION (pg 15)

UNDERSTANDING THE WORD FOOD.
Some people do not seem to understand the real meaning of the word food. Some just see food as anything edible for pleasure, a fuel source that utilizes and keep the going. So, what really do we understand by the word food?
Food generally is any substance, composed of water, protein, fat or carbohydrates that is either eaten or drunk by any animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Food items may be sourced from animals, plants and other categories like fungus. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use fishing, ranching and farming, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role.
However, many traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions using various spices or combinations of flavors unique to that culture. Other differences include preferences (hot or cold, spicy etc), and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Some cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. Some popular types of ethnic foods include aside African cuisine are some like the Chinese, Italian, French, American, Indian and Japanese...

Health and Fitness (pg 12).

EXERCISE-Are You Getting Enough Of It?

In as much as we are grateful to the revolution of modern day technology which enables us enjoy an easy life style, yet in the other way round, we can not be all thankful to drastic reduction of in physical exertion as a result producing a generation of sedentary people. Today, a modern worker has a lifestyle of sitting in front of the computer, driving in a car to virtually desired destination and spending an evening in front of the TV.
Health experts worldwide view this inactive trend as alarming. Over time, it is widely accepted that compared with active people, inactive people tend to have higher blood pressure, a higher risk of strokes and heart attacks, developing certain types of cancer, risk of osteoporosis and obesity. In response government agencies, health sector and even cooperate bodies around the world have started various programs designed to educate the public on the benefits of physical activities and exercise.
Notwithstanding all these efforts, the ultimate responsibility of care of one’s health falls squarely on each of us. Ask yourself, ‘Am I active enough? Am I getting enough exercise? Some obese people may tend turn up their noses at the mention of the word exercise, because to them, it is an artificial thing. While some others shy away from it because they think that a good fitness program must include grueling routine of weight lifting, lengthy daily runs covering many kilometers, and carefully choreographed stretches sessions. However, there is no hassle-free exercise program and a sedentary life-style is harmful to your health and there is no vitamin, medicine, food, or surgical procedure that can replace your need to remain active. Just as you make the time for family, career, sleeping and food, it is vital that you make out time to remain physically active.
    GETTING STARTED:
On getting started, first and foremost, whether if you are trying to loose weight or maintain a healthy weight, you should never....

LIVING THE BEST OF LIFE (PG.8)

In War With Your Dowdy Look? Be Bold, Fight It!
Are you that overweight sister who is so tormented by your alarming weight increase that each time you stare at your reflection in the mirror you frown?
I remember Angie, a character played by Roselyn Ngissah in the Ghanaian movie ‘4Play’. Angie was teased by her friends over her weight, no thanks to her husband who would look into her eyes and tell her she was FAT and SHAPELESS and how every inch lucky she was in the marriage because if he hadn’t marry her, no one would, according to him, not all men would stand the pressure of sleeping with a toad-like creature like her. Now even when Angie took up to exercise to shade some weight, her husband wasn’t encouraging either. He scornfully told her not to be so up tight about it because she was not going to loose a pound in five or ten years or maybe never that no matter how she tried, she was shapeless and so she should embrace and accept it.
Angie ran straight to the mirror crying and screaming at her image; ‘I hate you! I’m fat! I’m shapeless!’
Now hanging out with fellows who often tease and make jest of your big body size will only worsen matters as you are likely to feel insecure and threaten when ever you come in contact with a slimmer person because you feel you cannot compete with them.
In that movie, Angie was emotionally and psychologically tortured that in the gym, after working so hard on the treadmill along side with her friends, she screamed;
‘I quit! I quit trying to look any prettier. I quit trying to believe that I’m eventually going to loose weight.
I quit hanging up the hope in there that I am going to find a man that will love me for me.
You know why? Because I’m fat! Ugly and so…shape less!’
There are so many big sisters out there who are wearing similar or worse shoes than Angie. Sometimes, it could come as a public embarrassment. So many big sisters out there who board public transports have been refused to be carried by the drivers or sometimes asked to pay for two because the driver feels they will occupy more than one space or cause some discomfort to other passengers.
Being big could be one of the biggest challenges and embarrassing for most people and this could breed a monster. The monster here is SELF HATE; I’m too fat, I hate myself.
No, thanks to the media contributing a great deal in portraying an over weight woman as unattractive. The general perception of many people is that having a great and happy image is being as skinny as those runway models on glossy magazines and T.V. even when these models look so thinly, bony and sicken.
One thing you must know as a plus sized sister is that being big does not make you a lesser human being. Who ever told you that you cannot laugh, have fun and even look smashing?  All qualities come from within you. Like we all know, a typical African woman tends to be on a fleshy side, and most African men prefers them that way, big, bold, beautiful and totally in charge of her body rather than what they call ‘bonga fish’ looking runway models on the cover of fashion magazines, no offence to the skinny sisters.
In case you are wondering what this is all about, this is not to encourage obesity or make you eat and grow fatter...
